Published on Sunday, 25 April 2010

If you think you have the makings of a great theater actor or director, going to the best drama schools is the first step. A good education and training from a prestigious drama school on your belt would have its benefits. But then to get roles, you must also excel in auditions.

Take note you don't really need to be up on the stage to be on theater. Aside from be actors, you can be a director, props manager, house manager, costume designer, audio technician or lighting designer and technician. And you can train well in preparation for these roles in the production.

Good drama schools would have programs greatly designed for each specific position. You have to work hard to get into these programs though. And then you have to work extra hard to excel in your training too. If you really want to be the best, you have to make the most of your stay in school. Aside from academic subjects, you also have to get involved in more plays. After all, it takes practice to perfect your craft whether you are in front of the audience acting, singing and dancing or holding roles and responsibilities behind the stage. But then again to hone your skills in theater, getting higher degrees like a master's or doctorate degree could also contribute a lot to your whole package. The more education, training and experience you have the better you will be at your job.
